This week in 5th grade we finished some of our units like social studies and reading. In social studies, we did our prehistory project. The prehistory project was about writing about what life was like for prehistoric humans. You could either make a poster about them, write a speech, or pretend you were a prehistoric human and write what life is like for you. This week we also finished Harriet the Spy.  We will have a final test on it next week.  But today we watched the trailer and maybe we will soon see the movie. This week in science, we did another experiment on levers. Last week we were moving the effort, but this week we moved the load. Before, we made a hypothesis and after we made our conclusion. It was a fun week doing all these projects.

This week in the fifth grade, we learned about a wide variety of subjects. On Monday we learned about making connections to the text in reading. On Tuesday we had a very interesting conversation about the Stone Age and learned about how the Ape Men before us lived. On Wednesday we took an interesting science test on variables and controlled experiments. On Thursday we happily accepted a day off. On friday Mrs. Glanz math class learned about the story of one through an educational PBS video. Shabbat Shalom

This week in 5th grade we made a lot of cool discoveries. First we learned about early humans and fossil findings. Second, we did an experiment called swingers and we tested the length of the string. We also started writing our own precepts. We talked with Stephanie about the social justice puzzle. Last but not least, we wrote an I am poem from a Wonder character's perspective. It was a great week!

We had a great second week of fifth grade!!! A highlight of the week was getting our i Pads. It was fun to see what it could do. In science we did two experiments. In the first we asked the question "Is this rock alive?". It was really fun but it wasn't a real question. It was just to get us used to experiments like this one. In the second, we built a pendulum and then recorded the data. In reading we got to go speed dating.  first we chose a character from the book wonder by R.J. Palacio but we didn't tell anyone. then we responded like that person in our notebook. our goal was to guess the other persons character. we rotated playing interviewer and interviewee. Overall it was a great week.

This first week of school we all had so much fun but there was a lot of sitting and learning the rules. The best part of the week was seeing all my old friends again and talking about our summer. It was hard to get back into school because we are still really lazy from summer. There were a lot of changes from fourth to fifth grade. For example, in Judaic Studies we're going to have homework and it's taught by a different teacher from our classroom teacher. We're looking forward to getting iPads next week which is going to be a big change from past years.
Have a great weekend!

On Monday we started to all make our short stories and we continued the science fair testing . on Tuesday we had a fun glyph lesson were we took materials to make a design and each material had a property. We toured the room and figured out what each glyph meant. On Wednesday we again had short stories and science fair testing. Thursday was similar with testing but no short stories. On Friday we finished our stories and had a math test in both groups.

This week we started our summaries and the paragraph about a character of our choice.  Stephanie came in and talked about Martin Luther King.  Geraldine Sunshine who is a tzedaka hero gave an amazing speech about when she went to the Philippines and helped out after the typhoon.  In music we learned about one important fiction or non-fictional person that we could choose.  We finished our lab reports for science.  In math we learned about different kinds of polygons.

Hi everyone,

We have all been  really busy for the past week, but a lot has happened. We did a lot of short stories and everyone really liked one called the Strap box Flier.  It was about a man who sold glue that didn't work. We also read two books about kids who were being bullied and how their friends helped them. At the end of the week we compared them. Wednesday was especially exciting for multiple reasons. First we had a visitor named Jacob and we all really hope he comes next year. We also had an awesome science fair kick off night. We had a great time meeting our mentors, and everyone loved the pizza! Later in the week we started making our sites. So over all I think we had a great week.
